I have always had a passion for dogs.

From my family’s dogs growing up through to my present dogs,
I have always been amazed with their willingness to learn, to please and their loyalty.  No matter how
bad my day at work was, I could always count on coming home to a wagging tail and a big wet kiss.

Over the years I have gone through several stages of learning.

First all on my own, then reading books and watching videos and television, and finally under the
guidance and teaching of Master Trainer Harry Kalajian of Executive Dog Center.

I am a relative new comer to the field of professional dog training, but have spent the last 10 years in the corporate world where I have learned what leadership is all about.  People will respect you if you give them
a reason too.  It`s no different with dogs.  In fact, human psychology and dog psychology are quite similar.

Walk into a room full of people and you can usually pick out the leaders within a short period of time.
A dog can pick the leader out of a group of people instinctually within seconds from the way you hold
yourself and the confidence you exude.
At Alpha Dog Training we strive to give you the tools and knowledge you need to make sure your dog truly
sees you as the leader. Through proper training, proper exercise and proper playtime activities your dog will
see you as Alpha and want to please you at every opportunity.

I currently have 2 wonderful dogs, Slinky the Teckel (Daschound) and Ocean the Pit Bull.
Slinky is a new dog for me.  I have always had big dogs, but when my wife suggested a Teckel I jumped
at the opportunity.  Once I met him I knew there was no turning back.  Ocean joined our family at the age
of 5 months having come from Bullies In Need, a non-profit pit bull rescue out of Ontario.

My previous dog Suzi the Pit Bull   was in our life for 15 years and I absolutely fell in love with the breed.
I wanted another one and after a little research, decided to adopt one from a rescue......
something I would recommend to anyone.  Although a Pit Bull may not be for everyone, the thought of
rescuing a dog of any breed, from a rescue or shelter, can be one of the most rewarding things you will
ever do. As I have mentioned I have a passion for Pit Bulls.  I have always found them to be the most
athletically gifted, smart, loyal and people-friendly dogs I have ever met......
but that’s just my opinion...and I’m biased.

One of my goals is to have the best trained, obedient, happy and calm Pit Bull on the planet, and I am certain that Ocean is that dog.  Another one of my goals is to help others achieve the same thing. I am dedicated to educating people about Pit Bulls, helping people train them properly and helping them meet all their needs.

The first time I ever met a Pit Bull, the owner, seeing the look of distress in my face, said “remember...
it’s just a dog”.  No truer words have been spoken.  If together we can keep more Pit Bulls out of rescues,
and stop more municipalities (and provinces!) from passing ridiculous breed specific legislations, we are all
better off. The way we do this is by training our dogs properly, meeting their needs for exercise and socialising
them properly  ... and starting it all at the earliest age possible.  But this is nothing unique to Pit Bulls.
At the same time as Suzi, we had Java the Short-Haired German Pointer for 15 years.  She was the most
intense and focused dog I have ever met, not to mention her incredible energy. I was always amazed with the
natural instinctive behaviours she had. I don’t ever remember “teaching” her how to fetch something.
It just happened, probably from the first day I met her.  This however did manifest itself in embarrassing ways from time to time, as she would “fetch” articles of clothing and meet you at the door with it.  Depending on
which article of clothing and who was with you when you came into the house, these had the potential to be
embarrassing situations.  If I could have only taught her how to fold my life would have been so much easier.

I sleep well at night knowing that I gave them both the best life any dog could ever wish for.
